1. Introduction1.1 Research backgroundThe advent of the era of globalization has brought countries around the world closer together. As China continues to open up to the outside world, and the demand for English talents is also increasing, more and more people realize the importance of learning English. As the traditional teaching mode is still dominant in college English education, students can only passively accept the teaching based on grammar and vocabulary. Moreover, students autonomous learning behavior after class is still based on the strategy of examination. All these will gradually reduce students English learning interest, autonomy and practical ability. The emergence of new media makes English learning methods become diversified, and students can acquire knowledge independently through Apps, online platforms and social media. With the advent of the convergence media era, a variety of English learning methods have been combined. As the carrier of information transmission, convergence media is a media space of multi-cultural identity, with a wide range of English cultural knowledge. Its content is novel and interesting, and its forms and themes are rich. It reflects the norms of behavior and thinking model of modern people to varying degrees. It also makes English learning tools derived from the Internet and traditional knowledge carriers mutually integrated, realizing the efficient transmission and sharing of English learning resources. College stage is the key period for the formation of students awareness and ability of English autonomous learning. College students make use of convergence media and various knowledge media to conduct English autonomous learning, which is in line with the trend of Internet development. This can effectively mobilize the learning styles of different students, stimulate the potential of students, and effectively train them to plan, monitor and adjust their learning. Convergence media creates an immersive English language environment and a perfect learning atmosphere for college students, which gradually improves their enthusiasm for English autonomous learning. Faced with a variety of English learning tools and abundant learning resources, it is very important for English learners to choose appropriate learning approaches, integrate and utilize existing English learning resources to achieve efficient English learning.1.2 Research purposesWith the development of students English learning needs from language knowledge to language use, the limited language resources in traditional English classrooms can no longer meet students needs for the practicability and flexibility of language learning. The emergence and development of convergence media has greatly enriched the traditional English autonomous learning pattern. With the rapid development of the Internet and all kinds of Apps, people can efficiently obtain information and knowledge from various channels. The constantly updated new resources and convenient new ways of learning just make up for the difficulties in the traditional learning process. However, the development of convergence media technology has brought both opportunities and challenges. The content quality of online learning platform and students self-control ability will both affect students autonomous learning. Therefore, this essay aims to study college students convergence media-based English autonomous learning pattern, in order to deeply understand the strategies of college students using convergence media for English autonomous learning, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of students convergence media-based English autonomous learning pattern, and help college students in the era of convergence media to find effective English autonomous learning pattern, avoid inappropriate learning method.1.3 Significance of the researchThis essay has some practical significance. This study is no longer just focus on the application of mobile learning tools, or only research the present situation of the students English autonomous learning, but conforms to the trend of the convergence media era and Internet technology development, explores the development and application of convergence media on college students English autonomous learning. In order to find out some problems existing in the combination of college students English autonomous learning and modern communication tools. This can provide new ideas for the new problems faced by college students in English autonomous learning, and is of great significance to the improvement of English autonomous learning patterns. In addition, this research can also change peoples solidified understanding of convergence media, so as to play a greater educational function of it. Such as helping contemporary teachers improve teaching methods, helping them innovate the traditional classroom, breaking the monotonous classroom environment, and improving the activity and enthusiasm of the classroom.2.Literature review2.1 Introduction of convergence mediaAt present, there is no unified understanding of the concept research on convergence media in China, and the academic circles have different interpretations for the research on it. Zhou (2014) believes that convergence media is a new type of media. It is the product of the integration of traditional media and new media, and comprehensively integrates the advantages of the two to achieve resources accommodation, content compatibility, communication integration and interest integration. Wen et al. (2016) believe that convergence media is a new operation mode, integrating media functions, means and organizational structure under diversified communication channels. Yang (2020) believes that new media technology is a powerful driving force to promote media convergence. To sum up, convergence media is a new media, which combined with the advantage of traditional media and new media. With the development of Internet technology, it makes full use of media carriers, and integrates traditional radio, television, newspapers and other media that have both commonalities and complementarities, and comprehensively integrates human resources, content, and publicity for maximum communication effect. China has entered a new era of convergence media where traditional media and new media coexist. Since 2020, Chinese media have entered a stage of comprehensive transformation and deep integration under the influence of policy orientation and COVID-19. At present, the application scope of convergence media is very wide, and the relevant research covers media, production, entertainment, education and other aspects, and the research content generally revolves around the prospects, dilemmas, solution strategies of convergence media in these fields. Chen (2018) proposed that in the publicity of universities, convergence media needs to deepen Internet thinking, reshape the news output process, and unite high-quality editorial members. The relevant research also includes the application of new technologies to convergence media, including the application of blockchain technology, VM (VMware Workstation pro) technology, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, 5G technology and so on in the era of convergence media. As a new thing with a relatively late appearance, the research content on convergence media is more about practice, and the fields involved are mostly in the media industry. There are few studies on the combination of convergence media and autonomous learning, and the media involved in such research mostly use a platform as an example to concretize the research scope.2.2 Previous studies on autonomous learningThe concept of autonomous learning originated from the discussion on how to cultivate students lifelong learning ability and independent thinking ability in the western educational field in the 1950s. With the continuous development of pedagogy and psychology, scholars gradually realize that there are differences between individuals in learning. Holec (1981) firstly defined autonomous learning as the ability which the leaners are in charge of their own learning. Holec (1985) further defined that autonomous learning was of great help for learners to set learning objectives, schedule studying time efficiently, select appropriate leaning strategies, control learning process and make self-evaluation. Holec introduced the concept of autonomous learning into foreign language teaching, and for the first time connected the theory of autonomous learning with foreign language teaching. Bound (1988) points out that autonomous learning as a learning method is primarily characterized by students who not only respond to what is taught, but also take responsibility for their own learning. With the deepening of foreign studies on autonomous learning, Chinese scholar Chen (1999) believes that autonomous learning includes the following three aspects: First, autonomous learning refers to students control over their own learning objectives, learning methods and learning content. Second, autonomous learning is an internal mechanism, which is integrated by students learning attitude, learning ability and learning strategy. Third, autonomous learning refers to a learning pattern in which students develop and independently complete specific learning objectives according to their own conditions and learning needs under the macroscopic guidance of the overall teaching objectives of teachers. This is the earliest and more comprehensive summary of the meaning of autonomous learning in China. Zheng (2000) discussed the historical background, development and current situation of autonomous learning, and discussed the feasibility and far-reaching significance of the implementation of autonomous learning in the current educational environment. Hua (2001) studied the theoretical basis of autonomous learning, explored the construction elements, functions, types and related issues of the theory of autonomous learning, and proposed relevant strategies to improve students autonomous learning ability. Wei (2002) summarized the studies on autonomy by foreign scholars, mentioned the necessity of autonomy in foreign language learning, and discussed how to cultivate students foreign language autonomous learning ability under the current educational environment in China. Although the early research content in China is mainly derived from foreign research results, the research on English autonomous learning in China has gradually entered the stage of development. After the concept of autonomous learning was introduced into the field of language education by Holec, more and more countries regard the cultivation of students autonomous learning ability as one of the important goals of language teaching, and the language autonomous learning has become a hot topic in the field of foreign language education. There are abundant theoretical and practical research achievements related to autonomous learning. However, most of these studies are from an pedagogical perspective. Few studies combine English autonomous learning with current learning conditions from the perspective of students.ReferencesGreenhow, C., amp; Lewin, C. (2015).
